Ray Bologna, MD, MBA – The Creator of The Accidental Sisterhood
Dr. Ray Bologna has spent much of his 20+ year medical career helping women understand and treat their pelvic health problems. In 2005, he created a five-step pelvic floor exercise program (based on Kegel exercises) to improve bladder problems like urinary frequency, urgency, urge incontinence, and stress urinary incontinence. He published the program in his book, The Accidental Sisterhood, currently in its 4th edition with thousands of copies sold. Over the years, Dr. Bologna realized the one missing component from his book was a network of support – the bringing together of women who share the same issues and can learn from one another. He launched The Accidental Sisterhood website as a way to create this community.
Dr. Bologna currently serves as the chairman of the Department of Urology at Akron General Medical Center, and practices Urology and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery in Akron, Ohio at Physicians Urology. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, he received his doctor of medicine from Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and completed his residency in urology at NEOMED’s affiliated Urology Program. He completed a fellowship in female medicine and reconstructive surgery at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Bologna is board certified in both urology and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.
